President's Message...

Dear Cattlemen and Cattlewomen,

Welcome to our website.  We appreciate your interest in Beefmasters.  We’re proud to be a part of this progressive breed that has so much to offer the commercial producer.

Advanced tools are now available to assist the commercial producer in taking the guesswork out of bull and replacement female selection.  The Beefmaster breed has embraced technology with the introduction of genomic-enhanced Expected Progeny Differences, using the results of genomic testing along with pedigree, measured performance and progeny data to add more reliability to an individual’s EPD.

In addition to genomic-enhanced EPDs, two new indices have been added to the toolbox.  $T represents the terminal index designed for the producer that does not keep replacement females.  Maternal traits are not taken into consideration in this index.

However, $M provides the cattleman an index to help predict the performance of replacement females, while at the same time, putting maximum pounds on the respective steer mates.  For more information on these latest selection tools and how using Beefmaster bulls in your program can increase your profit, visit the Beefmaster Breeders United website at www.beefmasters.org, and click on the “Commercial Crossbreeding” link.  There you will find a wealth of information at your fingertips.
